To Train Up A Child – Stop messing about

So i read this post from Spencer and felt chilled to the core, and then i read this post from Sally and felt hmmm ‘freedom of speech’ does she have a point?

I ummed and ahhed and wondered if i should attempt a big long essay debating each stand point.

Then i thought – Freedom of speech vs. the advocacy and admission of violence against a child, a baby.

No contest.

Please stop messing about and sign the petition.

I bang on a bit, but you said it SO well. And thank you for your help and support with this. It’s key to me. Issues, lots of them. Free speech, religion, and people being afraid a bit of being criticised for saying something about this. BUT…

The criticisms people may receive, and I might be oversimplifying things.

    1) centre on the fact that some people have wanted to take this into a censorship debate. While my first post said ban it, my second and third clearly and simply asks for it to be withdrawn from Amazon and iTunes. This is clear. And I defy anyone to suggest that free speech is more important than the safeguarding and protection of children.

    2) Another reason why people might get criticism and back away from this is because of the religious aspect. But, the book does advocate child abuse and violence towards children, and no amount of theological ‘dressing up’ can disguise this.

As I said at the top *Points to the top* thank you for your help. Lots of people shouting about this might just make megacompanies like Amazon and Apple decide that the best thing to do is to withdraw this from sale.

Thanks Spencer, you really are doing a great job. That’s the thing i keep coming back to – i don’t understand how freedom of speech could ever be considered the more important issue.

I would love Amazon and co to withdraw it from sale because every single thing about the Pearls gives me the creeps. What they practice seems so very far removed from everything I know and love about my faith. But they should absolutely have the right to keep publishing it and seeing if they can hawk it themselves – it’s the distinction between banning (allows them to claim persecution, gives the aura of forbidden fruit) and making it socially unacceptable (general disgust and allowing them to wither and rot).

Agreed- I don’t see any debate about this. Where is the child’s free speech when they are getting hit? I signed the petition and rt’d the link twice – I am also not personally going to use amazon while this book is on sale (and I love using amazon!) xx
